EARTHTONES

The Listening Garden cofounder Earthtones is a multi-faceted artist/musician who crosses cultures in electronic music from ambient to cumbia & house to hip hop. Actively collaborating with artists across the globe, Earthtones creates and shares a diverse array of music, with releases on Wonderwheel Recordings, Isle of Jura Records, a forthcoming project on Multi-Culti Records, and a catalog of independent releases under various aliases.

We Can Live Together is the first full LP by Earthtones on Wonderwheel. The record is based in Folkloric Futurism, a movement that explores the convergence of global folk traditions with technology. Combining analog synthesizers & vintage drum machines with vocals & folkloric instrumentation from around the globe, it’s a celebration of the intersection of past and future, here and there, ancestry and technology. It celebrates themes of spirituality, feminism, love, and most of all, peace.

Serge headlines this edition of Dance Ground with a DJ set that includes a presentation of music from the new album!

JOHN ALDERSON

John is a multi-hyphenate creative, cultural producer, DJ, and relentless collector of music. He operates from a place of listening intently for what the moment calls for next, and is inspired above all to facilitate experiences of collective resonance and transcendence for all who gather. As well as cofounding and producing The Listening Garden in Ojai, he is a cofounder the LA hi-fi party series Sound of Make Believe.

Originally hailing from London, UK, his approach to DJing is shaped especially by his participation in David Mancuso’s Loft parties with Lucky Cloud soundsystem and in the scene surrounding the revered nightclub Plastic People, where he held down a residency as part of the Voices collective.

INSPIRATION

Dance Ground takes cues from spiritually-grounded NYC party The Loft, freeform movement practices & improvisational performance, and seeks to answer “the growing imperative to revive communal rituals of wonder that resound with the pulse of the present” (Joshua Schrei).
